From there they took another train to Charlotte, NC, where Bowie performed the following night.

Although he returned numerous times, he never again lived permanently in his country of birth. The move abroad was primarily for tax purposes, although Bowie did not at this time have a fixed destination in mind. He travelled on this day to Paris, by train and ferry, accompanied by Geoff MacCormack, to meet stage and film producer John Dexter to discuss the Diamond Dogs live show. Bowie and MacCormack checked in at the Hotel Raphael in Paris. They had intended to stay for just one night, but remained for several nights.
