On 7 January 2016, the day before the release of the Blackstar album, the video for David Bowie’s ‘Lazarus’ premiered. It was just three days before Bowie’s death, and ensured that the song, along with the album’s title track, received much attention when the news broke. The video was directed by Johan Renck, who had done the same for the ‘Blackstar’ video. Renck used an edited version of the song, which reduced the running time from 6:22 to 4:05. David Bowie receives honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music

On 8 May 1999 David Bowie was given an honorary doctorate at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. He received his doctorate and gave a commencement address to a crowd of 4,000 at the Hynes Convention Center. David Bowie performed at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, on 20 October 1996. This was the second of two consecutive nights at the venue. They were Bridge School Benefit shows, part of an annual event held from 1986 to 2016 to raise money for The Bridge School, which helps children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. David Bowie began his Glass Spider Tour with a show at the Stadion Feijenoord in Rotterdam on 30 May 1987. Bowie’s guitarists were Carlos Alomar and Peter Frampton. Erdal Kızılçay played keyboards, trumpet, congas, and violin, and Richard Cottle was on keyboards, saxophone, and tambourine. Carmine Rojas played bass guitar and Alan Childs was on drums and percussion. This was the first of two consecutive nights at the Stadion Feijenoord. David Bowie pleads not guilty to marijuana possession

On 25 March 1976, at Rochester City Court in New York state, David Bowie pleaded not guilty to possession of marijuana. He had been arrested and charged in the early hours of 21 March in Rochester, along with Iggy Pop, bodyguard Dwain Vaughns, and a 20-year-old local woman, Chiwah Soo. Marijuana possession was a class C felony, which carried a maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment. Rest assured the stuff was not mine. David Bowie was arrested in the early hours of 21 March 1976 in Rochester, New York, and charged with possession of marijuana. Earlier that evening Bowie had performed at the Community War Memorial Arena. After the show he held a party in his three-room suite at the Flagship Americana Hotel, inviting two women he had met at the hotel bar. David Bowie attended the New York premiere of the ballet Rodin, Mis En Vie on 17 April 1974. The event took place at the Harkness Theatre. Bowie was accompanied by Geoff MacCormack and Cherry Vanilla. Rodin, Mis En Vie was choreographed by Margo Sappington for the Harkness Ballet company. On his 27th birthday, David Bowie visited his friend George Underwood at his home in Hampstead, London. Bowie was accompanied by Amanda Lear. That afternoon the trio watched a screening of Fritz Lang’s 1927 film Metropolis at Hampstead’s Everyman Theatre. RCA holds press lunch for David Bowie

David Bowie’s record label RCA held a press lunch in his honour on 31 December 1973. The event took place at Rules Restaurant in London’s Covent Garden, where in 1969 Bowie and his wife Angie had modelled for Fabulous 208 magazine. The lunch was held in an upstairs room. Bowie was given a large plaque for having six albums in the UK charts for five weeks in 1973, and five in the top 50 for 19 consecutive weeks. He had sold a total of 1,056,400 albums and 1,024,068 singles. The plaque stated: “Awarded to David Bowie for outstanding musical achievements.
