David Bowie saw a performance of John Osborne’s play A Patriot For Me on 4 December 1973. The performance took place at the Palace Theatre in Watford. Bowie was accompanied by Amanda Lear. The play starred Marianne Faithfull. She and Lear had both appeared in Bowie’s The 1980 Floor Show in October. Following the show Bowie visited Faithfull backstage, and later joined the aftershow party. He was also interviewed by local radio at the theatre.

Bowie and his manager were confident that the recall would lead to a part in the production, but it was not to be. David Bowie appeared in Lindsay Kemp’s mime production Pierrot In Turquoise in the early months of 1968. 30 March saw his final performance. The musical had opened at Oxford’s New Theatre on 28 December 1967, followed by three nights in January 1968 at the Rosehill Theatre in Whitehaven. This was the last night of a five-date run at the Intimate Theatre in Palmers Green, London.
