David Bowie’s band The Konrads appeared at an event called the South London Beat Show on Sunday 24 November 1963. Also on the bill were The Wranglers, The Vendettas, Dave Seaton and the Lyons, The Copains, The Cougars, and Peter Budd and the Rebels. The event took place at Lewisham Town Hall on Catford Road in Catford, London. By this point Bowie had grown frustrated with The Konrads and was looking for a new band to join. The Konrads took to the stage at 11:30pm. Also on the bill was The Trubeats, a band featuring Bowie’s former schoolmate Peter Frampton on guitar. Bowie painted the cartoon-like illustrations on the panels which were used as the stage backdrop for The Konrads.

David Bowie’s band The Konrads recorded a session at Decca Studios in West Hampstead, London, on Thursday 29 August 1963. The recording was an audition for the Rolling Stones’ manager Eric Easton and his assistant Bob Knight, who were interested in taking on The Konrads. The two men met the group several weeks previously after a show at Orpington Civic Hall. Easton was interested in whether Decca saw potential in the group, hence the recording session. The Konrads performed several times at Justin Hall, part of Ravensbourne Art School in West Wickham, Bromley, in 1962 and 1963. There were regular Friday night gigs at the venue, but this one took place on a Thursday. Entry was three shillings and sixpence, or one shilling for members. In 2018 a demo recording by the Konrads was put up for sale by Omega Auctions. The promoter of the show contacted the auctioneers, telling them: “I put that band on in ‘63, still got the poster somewhere I think.” Believed to be the earliest David Bowie concert poster in existence,
