With the New York recording sessions for Aladdin Sane complete, on the afternoon of 11 December 1972 David Bowie gave a press conference at RCA Studios in New York.
The conference took place at RCA’s Studio 3. The subjects included his work with Lou Reed – Transformer had been released the previous month – and poor ticket sales for some of Bowie’s shows, including St Louis on 11 October.
It made me feel very underground. I was knocked out we were even considered strong enough to be a headline band on our first tour. I was flabbergasted on the way back with the size of the audiences we drew.
