Davie Jones with the King Bees – led by the future David Bowie – appeared on the television show Ready Steady Go! on Friday 19 June 1964.
It was Bowie’s second TV appearance, following his debut on the BBC’s Juke Box Jury earlier in the month.
Ready Steady Go! was a pop music show filmed at Television House on London’s Kingsway. The edition was broadcast two days later on 21 June.
Also appearing was blues legend John Lee Hooker. Prior to forming the King Bees, Bowie was briefly in a trio with George Underwood and drummer Viv Andrews called the Hooker Brothers, in tribute to the bluesman.
