David Bowie recorded several versions of ‘After Today’ during the Young Americans sessions in August 1974.
The song went through various iterations during the recording at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, before being abandoned.
‘After Today’ was first released in the 1989 Rykodisc box set Sound + Vision.
There was a completely different take of that song. Very slow, like a soul ballad – but we preferred the one we used.

A different mix of the same take, with less reverb applied, was included in the 2 December 2003 reissue of the box set.
