David Bowie and his band were in the midst of an eight-day period of rehearsals on 22 January 1972.
The rehearsals took place on 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, and 28 January at the Theatre Royal in Stratford, London, ahead of the Ziggy Stardust Tour beginning on the 29th.
