This is the fourth of five blog posts on my favorite technologies.
Simply put, Logmein is an online service that allows me to access my office computer from my laptop. As long as my office computer is turned on and connected to the Internet, I can access the entire computer from my laptop.
This is incredibly helpful when I need to access a particular program that I have on my office computer that is not installed on my laptop (e.g., my accounting software).
Logmein is easy to install, easy to use, and the basic version is free!
Stay tuned for more of my favorite technologies, and feel free to add your own in the comments section.
LogMeIn’s iPad app is not free, unfortunately. It does work pretty well, though. I’m getting to the point where I don’t even carry a laptop anymore.
I’m not an iPad guy, though I know the iPhone app also had a fee. I didn’t get it because I couldn’t imagine using LogMeIn on the iPhone…
I thought I got the LogMeIn app on iPhone for free, but now I don’t remember. However, it actually works pretty well on the iPhone. I won’t be doing major things, but to quickly access my laptop to see something and do minor jobs, it’s not that bad.
Wes, thanks for the call out! I work for LogMeIn and just wanted to clarify that there is indeed a free LogMeIn app that brings the same computer-to-computer access to the iPad and iPhone. We previously only had premium app, called Ignition, but added a free app, simply called LogMeIn for iPad/iPhone, last December. Ignition is still in the market to best support existing Ignition customers — it means we can always update the app with new features, bug fixes, etc. — and Ignition owners were grandfathered into all the features and benefits you’ll find with the paid/premium version of our remote access product. But if you’re new to the app or to LogMeIn, the free version is good way extend remote access to any Mac or PC from your iOS devices.
That’s good information, Craig, thanks for letting us know.
